Leeman is a little town in WA that has something to offer for everyone; from relaxing white sandy beaches and stunning blue waters to an active freshwater activity scene. It is also a top spot for fishing and diving with its first-class jetties and boat ramps as well as offering a spectacular wildflower display in nearby Lesueur National Park from July to October. No matter what kind of weekend you are after, Leeman will have you covered. Leeman is a convenient three-hour drive from Perth via the scenic route along the Indian Ocean Drive.
Texas, Queensland, is a rural country town that lies next to the Dumaresq River, just over a three-hour drive from Brisbane. The town is buzzing with activity with the annual Texas Country Music Roundup scheduled from the 24th until the end of the month (yet to be confirmed due to COVID-19). Texas also offers plenty of nearby national parks, including the Dthinna Dthinnawan National Park for those who are after a more active weekend getaway.
Mollymook is an awesome spot if you love going to the beach, gazing at ocean views or catching some killer waves. Just a three-hour drive from Sydney, the town also offers a range of dining options for those who are after a slower weekend. If you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of bottlenose dolphins or a humpback whale!
Grampians National Park, VIC
A three-hour drive from Melbourne CBD, Grampians National Park offers a wide range of activities, including a range of outdoor recreational activities and Aboriginal rock art sites. However, the highlight of the park will have to be its scenic beauty with its dynamic terrain, from rugged mountain ranges, canyons, peaks and valleys. September may also be the best time of the year to visit the ranges as you will catch a glimpse of the colourful wildflower display in the park.
Tumby Bay, SA
Tumby Bay is a bit of a longer drive from central Adelaide at around six hours, but definitely one that is worth it. Tumby Bay has everything you need for a perfect weekend getaway, with crystal blue waters, pubs, seafood, fish and chips, and a stunning sunset view over the jetty. Just something every dad needs.
